Raj Kundra embraces “Sikhism” afterplaying sikh character in Punjabi film

Businessman Raj Kundra is popular Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband. Recently, he opened up about a major life transformation, transitioning from a self-described “borderline atheist” to embracing Sikhism after playing a Sikh character in the upcoming Punjabi film, Mehar.
He stated amidst a media interaction that wearing a turban for the role (Karamjeet Singh) profoundly affected him, prompting him to keep his hair covered to honor Sikh principles and values like Seva and Sabhar.

Kundra described the journey as “touching his soul” and stated it was one of the most transformative experiences of his life.
On embracing sikh values he said that he is adopting the principles of Sikhi not just externally, but as a way of life, finding it grounded him.

In a candid moment, he shared that his wife, Shilpa Shetty, commented,
“eventually, her husband has come to the right path, regarding his newfound spiritual direction.
He now consciously chooses to keep his hair covered as a mark of intense respect for the dastaar (turban) and the Sikh community.
These sentiments were shared in the context of his Punjabi film debut Mehar, where he plays the lead character, Karamjeet Singh.

Kundra further went on to express his gratitude for the experience, emphasizing that the turban brought a sense of responsibility and pride.
