Rupali Ganguly’s defence of PM Modi triggers polarised debate online

A viral social media exchange between television actor Rupali Ganguly and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee sparked by Rathee encouraging foreign journalists to confront Prime Minister Modi over transparency and accountability amidst his international visits.

Dhruv Rathee, Berlin, Germany based social media influencer posted
on X (formerly Twitter) stating that
PM Modi “deserves to be humiliated everywhere he goes” due to an alleged lack of press conferences and transparency over his 12 years as Prime Minister.

Quoting Rathee’s post, Anupama
actress and BJP member defended
PM Modi stating he is among the most internationally respected and honoured leaders in the world today,” and highlighted that he has continuously won democratic elections for over 25 years. She further added that Indians do not need a YouTuber who lives abroad to lecture them on leadership or democracy.

Ganguly’s defense of the Prime Minister triggered a massive, polarized debate online, with extensive discussions breaking out across platforms like X and Facebook. Other prominent figures, such as actor and former politician Gul Panag, also weighed in on the controversy.
