Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray publicly demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis take action against Mumbai BJP president Ameet Satam. This came after a viral video allegedly showed Satam laughing while discussing recent tragic rain-related deaths in the city, including an 11-year-old boy killed by a falling tree and a 60-year-old man who fell into an open manhole. In an open letter, Thackeray criticized the “insensitive” behavior and questioned the Chief Minister’s silence, suggesting that those who joke about public tragedies should be made to resign. Several other opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena UBT leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut, as well as NCP figures, also strongly condemned the BJP leader.
Meanwhile, Satam defended himself, claiming the video was taken out of context. He clarified that the smile was merely an acknowledgment during a casual exchange with MLA Jayant Patil and accused his critics of manufacturing controversy instead of addressing real civic issues.
