The updated legislation modernizes the registration process by creating a centralized digital database for births and deaths to improve public service delivery.
This digital record will serve as the primary base document for a wide range of public services, including the issuance of driving licenses, voter registration list updates, passport applications, and admission processes for educational institutions. Government officials stated that the centralized database will streamline administrative procedures, eliminate the need for multiple redundant documents, and ensure transparent, efficient updates to national registries.
The bill now moves forward to the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passage.
