Bollywood Legend Amitabh Bachchan reeled through a troubled financial crisis in the 90s when his company went into debt and his personal bank balance had reduced to “zero” balance. The actor recalled that
Dhirubhai Ambani stepped forward with an offer to help him.
In the midst of an event in 2017 to celebrate four decades of Reliance Foundation, the Senior Bachchan delivered a speech reminiscing Dhirubhai Ambani and shared an anecdote of how the businessman had shown him his generosity that moved him.
In an old video which the senior Bachchan shared he had said that there was a phase in bis life when he went bankrupt.
The company he had established suffered losses, he had debts, his personal bank balance was zero. All his avenues to earn were shut and the government had raided his house.
Amitabh had floated Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited in the 1990s but it failed to take off and the firm soon went bankrupt, leaving the Bachchan family reel through in heavy debts.
Notedly, at the ceremony, Bachchan recalled how Dhirubhai learnt about his condition and told his younger son Anil Ambani, “‘Iska bura waqt hai, isey kuch paise de do.’”
The actor recalled that when Anil met him and told him this, he was touched.
“Whatever he had to offer, all his financial troubles would have been solved. He went emotional at his generosity but turned it down.
God was kind and after some tough days, the tide changed.
He started getting work and slowly he could repay all his debts.
Bachchan later said that he was invited to Dhirubhai Ambani’s residence for a special occasion and when he went there, he saw that Dhirubhai Ambani was busy talking to the biggest of names from the business world. And when he saw him, he called him over and asked him to sit with him.
Bachchan felt a little awkward and he told him that he is comfortable there with his friends but he insisted and made him sit. Then, in front of all the stalwarts, he said…” Bachchan said and paused briefly, as he started choking up narrating the incident.
