Kamal Amrohi Studios to house one of the city’s biggest offices

Bengaluru-based real estate and alternate assets firm RMZ and CPPIB are to invest around $750 million to set up RMZ Nexus, an office space located on the site of what used to be Kamal Amrohi Studios on JVLR.

News comes to light Kamal Amrohi Studios which has been the
shooting floor for many iconic films and television shows for as many as five decades will now house Mumbai’s single-largest office space. The construction work on the RMZ Nexus has already started by the Bengaluru-based RMZ has started on the office premises. Reportedly, the firm has teamed-up with the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) for the project, which is estimated to have an outlay of around $750 million.

According to Thirumal Govindraj, RMZ’s chief executive officer for its office business in an interaction with the media, the project will be divided into two phases for which the firm has roped in American architecture firm SOM as the principal architect for the project. SOM has designed assets such as the Burj Khalifa and the Bengaluru International Airport.

Thirumal further went on to add that they have commenced the piling work at the site, and are also appointing an international construction firm to build the premises.

The first phase of the project will have 1.7 million square feet of space, to be completed in the next 36 months, after which the other phase will be taken up.

While the project, titled RMZ Nexus, has long been in the offing for more than five years, it had encountered delays due to issues in approvals, as well as providing an exit to erstwhile partners in the project who owned the land – DB Realty (now known as Valor Estate) and an arm owned by Pune-based developer Avinash Bhosale.
