The Great Gatsby
released in May 2013, a Baz Luhrmann’s dazzling adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless novel swept everyone into the roaring 1920s, a world of opulence, illusion, longing, and heartbreak.
With Leonardo DiCaprio as the enigmatic Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as the introspective Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as the elusive Daisy Buchanan — the film was a visual symphony, shimmering with grandeur, jazz, and poetic melancholy.
And among this brilliant ensemble stood our very own Bollywood Legend Amitabh Bachchan, making his powerful Hollywood debut as Meyer Wolfsheim.
Though brief, his performance was unforgettable — mysterious, magnetic, and soaked in old-world charm. What’s more inspiring? He did it purely as a gesture of friendship to director Baz Luhrmann.
The film Winner of 2 Academy Awards — Best Production Design & Best Costume Design remains a cinematic jewel, still shimmering 12 years on.
According to Fitzgerald’s grand daughter, Scott would have been proud.And indeed, so the entire cast and crew.
