Aamir Khan compared his 2018 action-adventure film, Thugs of Hindostan with Sholay. He made these remarks at a masterclass, detailing the following about the film.
He noted that the film’s core formula was very similar to Sholay. While in Sholay, Thakur seeks revenge for his wiped-out family and brings in Jai and Veeru to help. Similarly, in Thugs of Hindostan, Zafira seeks revenge, and the character Firangi (played by Aamir) comes to her aid. Regardless massive anticipation driving a record-breaking ₹52.25 crore opening day, the movie failed to connect with the audience, and collections crashed drastically in the following days.
Aamir took responsibility for its failure, admitting that repeated script changes due to casting issues caused the story to lose its original essence, making it his biggest disaster.
