Reportedly, the Madras High Court has closed the copyright infringement suit filed by Aamir Khan Productions Private Limited regarding its cinematographic film, “Batwara 1947”. Justice P.B. Balaji recorded the withdrawal of the case on October 13, 2026, subsequent to formal instructions given by the production banner’s legal counsel to drop the proceedings.
The original commercial suit was initiated by the production house as a proactive measure against digital and physical piracy ahead of the film’s theatrical release. It had named 33 entities as respondents, including major internet service providers like Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm, and Vodafone India, as well as multiple local cable television operators. The legal action sought comprehensive John Doe injunctions to enforce the blocking of unauthorized web pages, digital distribution systems, and illegal camcording avenues.
Although the high court had previously extended temporary anti-piracy relief to safeguard the initial run of the Partition drama, the company chose to formally record an endorsement to withdraw the primary lawsuit. Consequent to the technical withdrawal, the court dismissed the main suit along with its remaining interconnected interim relief applications without imposing any legal costs on either side.
