With Diwali, the festival of lights just a week away, and with people on shopping spree, news comes to light that Ujjain based highbred gang of women are active in Malad’s Natraj Market one of the favourite Diwali shopping destinations.

As per Malad Police they nabbed two minor girls for shoplifting at a garment store during the peak hour. The owner had caught the minors stealing expensive clothes and called the cops but since he refused to file any complaint they let off the two girls with a warning.

However, an officer of the Malad Police Station revealed that they received a valid tip off amid their detention and alerted their people.

The Malad Police Station Officer further revealed that while questioning the two girls,they learnt that a group of over a dozen women and girls are at Natraj market from Ujjain, MP, to make some quick money.

The Malad police further add that they had received seven to eight complaints of pickpocketing and shoplifting daily last Diwali, hence this year beefed up security in Natraj Market
A police banner has been put up at at the Natraj Market to alert the shoppers of thefts.

As per Ravindra Adane, senior inspector, Malad police station,
a few days back, they received several complaints of mobile, wallet and gold chain theft incidents. Last week 25 cops in plainclothes were deployed at the market. Police have also installed Automated loudspeakers to sound alert.

This year, the crowd at Natraj Market has doubled than the previous year, as Mumbaikars are celebrating the festivals without any curbs for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020.

The Diwali festival is close and people have started thronging the markets. In the past one week, we received several complaints of mobile and wallet thefts. We have nabbed around three-four local residents in separate incidents. As of now we are now focusing on this group from Ujjain concluded Adane.

The police who have photos of the habitual offenders, caught them roaming in the market and warned them from visiting the area again.

The police are also using the footage of CCTV cameras in the market to keep an eye on any suspects.
