It’s a known fact that the Senior IPS Officer Deven Bharati was the blue-eyed boy of Devendra Fadnavis while he was the State Chief Minister between 2014-19 and held the Home department, (which he now continues as Dy.Chief Minister) whereas Bharti was Joint Commissioner of Police.

The reason behind creating a new post as ‘Special Mumbai Police Commissioner may be his intent to bring the Police Force on the lines of Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru police to re-structure the functioning of the Mumbai Police Commissionerate and to assist Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar.

In accordance to the order five joint commissioners report to the commissioner, but, now, the pecial commissioner will help out the commissioner.

Meanwhile, the exact powers and duties of the new post have not been specified as yet, but, likely to be clarified in the coming few days.
