Two female Mumbai Police Personnel spotted on two-wheeler sans helmet hun
Riding a two wheeler without offence falls under section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act of 2019 and outlines the requirement for all individuals over the age of 4 to wear headgear while astride a two-wheeler in a public space.
This holds true for the driver as well as the pillion rider for every citizen be it the guardians of law that includes the traffic police too.
Ironically, it is being noticed that the law makers flout such rules but penalize a common citizen when caught riding a two-wheeler.
Recently netizens were a witness to helmetless cops riding a scooter and shared the pictures. In accordance to the rules, both riders (pillion) of a two-wheeler are required to wear helmets or cough up penalty of Rs 500 each.
Repeated violations result in the suspension of driving licences for three months. This applies even to the Mumbai Police as well as the Traffic Police.
A Twitter user has shared a photo of two police personnel riding a scooter without helmets. The tweet soon garnered hundreds of likes.
While responding to the tweet, the Mumbai traffic police has asked the person who tweeted to share the location of the road where the photo was taken and the twitter Barman wrote, “Eastern Express Highway (Dadar)”. In an update, Police replied, that they have shared the photo with a senior official of the Matunga traffic division for necessary stern actions.
Several commenters argued that the traffic police could issue an e-challan directly as the number plate of the police personnel’s scooter was visible in the photo. While imposing fine and collecting bribe from normal people does the police ask for their location? They, as duty bound click their image and issue challans right? wrote a Twitter user.
