Delay in arrival of rain
Southwest Monsoon in second week of June
News from IMD states that owing to the cyclonic conditions formed in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, the progress of Southwest Monsoon is still stunted.
As per IMD, the situation is not yet clear as to when monsoon will hit Kerala. But according to the extended forecast, there is a possibility that monsoon will enter Kerala by the end of this week, while monsoon will enter Maharashtra in the second week of June.
Meanwhile, pre-monsoon rain with thundershowers is expected at some places in the state in the next two days.
According to the forecast released earlier by the Meteorological Department, monsoon was likely to enter Kerala around June 4. However, the arrival has been delayed due to the cyclonic conditions formed in the Arabian Sea as well as the Bay of Bengal.
The arrival of monsoon in Kerala is based on the rainfall at 14 centers there. Although conditions are favorable for rain at all these fourteen centres, only one center is currently receiving rain.
However, due to the system in both these seas, there is still no clarity about when this arrival will take place.
The cyclonic condition formed in the South East Arabian Sea will intensify in the next 24 hours i.e. on Tuesday (6th) and it will turn into a low pressure area. During the next two days, this low pressure area is likely to move northward and intensify over the southeast and adjacent east-central Arabian Sea. In the next two days, both these belts are likely to move northward, only after which the conditions will be good for monsoon.’
Monsoon will cover all the states from June 16 to 22.
