Mumbai Police battle deadly disease caused by stress.
Mumbai Police embraces the motto “Sadaiv Tatpar, Sadaiv Madatis” which means ‘always alert, always helpful’.
Ironically, the health of the force that guards India’s financial hub is crumbling under work pressure. Many personnel have succumbed to physical illness and mental stress before the age of 50. Can the most storied police cadre of the country be saved before it’s too late?
According to Bombay High Court on 2020, Mumbai Police is hailed one amongst the best in the world after Scotland Yard while issuing a directive in a cybercrime case. The court’s pat on the back indeed comes as a ‘medal for distinguished service’ for a force that brought the dreaded Mumbai mafia to its knees, ending decades of extortion, kidnappings, murders, and bloody gang wars.
But there seems to be no cure for their stress. They work round the clock, find no quality time for the family and festival celebrations are not for them. They are duty bound. Working tirelessly be it winter, monsoon or summer, they become victims to stress and many from the force have succumbed to it. They are beyond call of duty.
The respective State Governments must take up the matter seriously and find solutions otherwise the force will be a witness to deaths of its personel.
