Heavy rains to continue till
July 3
The IMD has issued ‘Orange’ alert for Mumbai and Maharashtra in view of the incessant heavy rains a accompanied by gusty winds.
Although the South West Monsoon arrived late by two whole weeks in Mumbai last weekend, it managed to turn heads. The Financial hub has witnessed quite a bit of rainfall in the last few days, with figures crossing the 100 mm mark in certain parts of the city and its suburbs.
In fact, the intense and incessant heavy showers practically ravaged the city on Thursday and Friday resulting in the loss of lives, damage to property, uproot of trees in few parts and major inconvenience to commuters due to Waterlogging, traffic snarls and disruption to Mumbaikar’s lifeline, the local trains.
In a period of 5 days, 11 deaths have been reported- six people in house collapse in Ghatkopar and 3 people due uproot of tree in Govandi. People have also been warned not to venture into the beaches- Juhu, Marine Drive-Chowpatty, Worli-Seaface Marve Beach and Madh Island
due to high tide, current and sinking sand.
