Balmukund Acharya, BJP MLA is encountering protests from Muslim students in Jaipur for allegedly not permitting them to wear hijab in a government senior secondary school.

Reportedly in Jaipur, several school girls blocked road outside the Subhash Chowk police station and raised slogans against the BJP legislator.

Their only demand was word of an apology from the legislator and an FIR against him.

Balmukund Acharya, drew attention for going around his constituency shutting down shops selling non-vegetarian food a day after being elected as an MLA in Rajasthan. He later tendered an apology for his actions following people’s complains about him to the National Human Rights Commission.

As per the protesting girls, the MLA had visited the school to attend the annual function and was accorded a hearty welcome. The girls were informed that hijab is not allowed and he asked how the girls can breathe while wearing hijabs.
Acharya told the media personnel that he had asked the school principal over the dress code rules.

The Acharya had asked the school principal that in the annual festival in a government school, is there a provision for two different dresses? The principal has said no and said that the students do not follow.

The BJP MLA further said that the girls were either in hijab or in burqa amidst the programme in the school.

There were two types of atmosphere visible there. So, he had asked the principal about the dress code. Why are there two types of dress codes in schools? He did not go to Madrasas and ask them to change their dress. They have their rules.

On Tuesday Balmukund apprised a news agency that he had a conversation with the Muslim girls, and the protest was only being done by people who were doing “politics”.
