In a new development Maharashtra state has sanctioned a complete academic fee-waiver for girls who come from families bringing in a total income for
Rs eight lakh or less.
The state will reimburse the amount. The move expected to help boost the enrolments of girls in higher education.
This was announced by Maharashtra’s higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil on Friday in the midst of the Joint Board of Vice-Chancellors (JBVC) meeting.
Currently there is 50 percent academic fee-waiver in the same category which is now extended to 100 percent.
Patil further added that Universities should work toward ensuring that more girls take admission to higher education courses across various fields,” as he instructed VCs run special campaigns for the same along with insisting on the importance of varsities declaring results on time.
Governor of Maharashtra, Ramesh Bais, who chaired the JBVC in his capacity of Chancellor to all state universities also urged all VCs to declare results on time.
He said that this is important to ensure that students do not miss out on their academic years or job opportunities, due to delay in results.
Last year too, the governor had reprimanded universities for delayed results. He had articulated that VCs will be held accountable for the delay in declaration of results and dispensation of mark-sheets.
Speaking on how Germany, Japan, Israel etc. countries are expecting skilled manpower from India, Bais insisted that universities should run skill-based and job-oriented courses.
He also went on to instruct VCs to adopt ten villages from their respective varsity’s jurisdiction in order to work toward academic and social development in rural areas.
He also instructed universities to increase participation in the National Institutional Ranking Framework. He asked universities to submit a detailed report on the implementation of National Education Policy and the action taken.
