Mumbai – Pune witnesses
sudden dip in mercuries
Nighttime temperatures drop below 20°C
Although, many cities in South brace for temperatures crossing the 40°C mark, Mumbai and Pune residents are a witness to a rather sudden, dip in mercuries.
Already, Mumbai’s Santacruz has recorded a drop of 6.5 degrees in minimum temperatures within 24 hours, going from 24.4°C on Sunday to 17.9°C on Monday.
Acording to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbaikars can expect mostly clear skies and a further dip in temperatures today.
The pleasant weather is attributed to the interaction of opposing wind directions. Back-to-back western disturbances are hitting the Western Himalayan region, causing snowfall in the region.
Due to some of these disturbances percolating down south and interacting with the seasonal northerly winds over the Konkan region, Mumbai is experiencing this dip in temperature.
For the next 24 hours, the city will see partly cloudy conditions with highs reaching around 30°C and lows hovering near 20°C. The following 48 hours will bring a shift towards mainly clear skies, with temperatures ranging between a comfortable 31°C during the day and a cooler 19°C at night.
Pune too is experiencing similar weather patterns, but its nighttime temperatures will dip even further, ranging from 12-16°C in the coming days.
The cause for this drastic shift in mercury levels is not rainfall.
As per Sunil Kamble, head of IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre, residents need not worry about heavy rainfall.
