Nag Ashwin’s directorial Kalki 2898 AD, courts controversy after trailer release
Nag Ashwin’s directorial much-anticipated and publicised film Kalki 2898 AD has courted controversy after the release of the trailer.
Days after watching the first peek of the film featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, a concept illustrator and designer, who worked with Marvel Studios, Disney, and Warner Bros, has taken to social media to call out the makers, Vyjayanthi Movies, for seemingly copying his artwork.
While sharing the frames from Kalki 2898 AD and his own artwork dating 10 years, Sung Choi criticised the unauthorised use of his creation. If his post is credible, Choi’s comparison inarguably appears to hold merit.
Sung Choi further went on to add that unauthorised use of artwork is a bad practice and this makes him question doing art in this lawless environment. He shared it on social media, tagging the film and the production house.
The illustration that Choi calls his own appears to be published on his website a decade ago.
Another concept illustrator, Oliver Beck, called out the makers for ‘stealing’ his artwork from the film, Star Trek: Prodigy (2021). He wrote, “Sad to see that some of the work I did for Star Trek: Prodigy got stolen by Vyjayanthi Movies in their trailer.” Beck also shared his creations to back his claims.
Netizens came out in support of the artistes and slammed the production house.
