People of Chiplun in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra were in for a rude shock on spotting an 8-foot-long crocodile sauntering
through the rain-sodden streets.

The video, which has since gone viral on social media has generated widespread attention.

The dramatic footage, captured by an autorickshaw driver in the Chinchnaka area amidst a steady downpour

As per reports, the crocodile ventured into the town from the nearby Shiv or Vashishti rivers.

Local residents were both startled and fascinated by the unusual sight, with many taking out their phones to document the encounter.

It is learned that Mugger crocodiles, one of three crocodilian species in India, are common in Ratnagiri but not a frequent site in traffic. Heavy downpour in the town has led to a rise in the water level in the rivers.
