Filmmaker Aswini Dutt declines actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s offer

While filmmaker Aswini Dutt is basking in the success of his latest magnum opus Kalki 2898 AD, he gones on giving interviews to various media channels expressing his happiness.

In the midst of one of the interviews he revealed that when Telugu producers recently met the recently appointed Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, PK suggested a North Indian ticket pricing model of ₹1000 to ₹1500 per ticket for Kalki 2898 AD.

Aswini Dutt explained that he had to drop the plan, thinking it wouldn’t work in the Telugu states.

Elaborating on such high pricing, in cities like Mumbai and Delhi, ticket prices can be ₹1000, ₹1500, and even over ₹2000, but these are for select multiplexes that offer luxury, experience, and ambiance.

Nevertheless theaters in the Telugu states, predominantly in Andhra, are in poor condition. No one will pay such high prices for any movie, regardless of the star or director. Even hardcore fans would stop going to the movies if the prices were so high.

The current ticket prices of ₹300 are already driving audiences to pirated sites or waiting for OTT releases. The ₹1000-₹1500 pricing isn’t sustainable even for top multiplexes in Hyderabad.

Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan might have a deep love for cinema, but he needs to understand that cinema was once the cheapest form of entertainment. A reasonable hike is necessary for more producers to invest in such big event films, but not ₹1000-₹1500 per ticket.

While ticket hikes might be necessary for big-budget films like Kalki 2898 AD, the prices Pawan Kalyan suggested will drive audiences away from theaters even for epic films.
