K.N. Singh(Krishan Niranjan Singh), was son of Chandi Prasad Singh, an esteemed Indian prince and a well-known criminal lawyer, initially aspired to pursue a career in the army, although he was expected to follow his father’s path and become a lawyer.

However, on witnessing his father’s successful defense of a guilty man, which eventually turned him away from the legal profession, prompted K.N. Singh to redirect his focus towards sports. Excelling in javelin throw and shot put, he represented India in the 1936 Berlin Olympics before being compelled to attend to his ailing sister in Calcutta

It was in Calcutta ( now Kollata) where that he was introduced to the renowned director Debaki Bose by family friend Prithviraj Kapoor, resulting in a debut role in the film Sunehra Sansar

While his career had been moderate, it was his portrayal as antagonis in Baghban
that catapulted him to stardom. The film’s big success established his reputation as a prominent ‘bad man of the era.

Notably, throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Singh featured in numerous iconic films such as Sikandar, Jwar Bhata, Humayun Awara, Jaal, CID, Howrah Bridge , Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Amrapali, and An Evening in Paris

Rather than essaying aggressive criminals, Singh was often seen as a sophisticated antagonist, elegantly dressed in a suit and smoking a pipe, while delivering his lines with a composed yet chilling demeanor.

His charismatic presence, deep voice, and intimidating gaze earned him a legendary status in the industry.
