Ram Gopal Varma isn’t new to controversial topics within Indian cinema. His films often explore themes of crime, power dynamics, and societal issues. Recently, the filmmaker sparked a wave of discussion on social media with a provocative post on
X that encapsulated a storyline resembling a real-life saga involving crime, politics, and celebrity culture.

His post read:
A Lawyer turned Gangster wants to take Revenge for a Deer’sS death by killing a Superstar and as a warning orders some of his Gang of 700, which he recruited through Facebook to first kill a Big Politician, a close friend of the Star.. The Police can’t catch him because he is under the protection of the Government in a JAIL and his spokesman speaks from abroad. If a Bollywood writer comes up with a story like this they will thrash him for writing the most unbelievable and ridiculous story ever.

This tweet set ablaze an array of interpretations and reactions from users on X (formerly Twitter), who quickly connected the dots amid Verma’s narrative and actual figures in the Indian entertainment and political landscape.

One user remarked, “Real life names here: Lawyer (Gangster): Lawrence Bishnoi; Super Star: Salman Khan; Politician: Baba Siddique (recently shot dead by his gang)”. Another user expressed disbelief at the bizarre nature of the plot, stating, “What a crazy plot! It sounds too outrageous to be real!”

The responses to Varma’s tweet were immediate and varied. Users dissected the elements of his narrative, likening it to a script that would typically be dismissed as implausible if presented in a film. One user noted, “If a Bollywood writer wrote this, the audience would probably roll their eyes and say, ‘This is too much, yaar. Even for Bollywood, this is over-the-top!’”

Many users echoed this sentiment by reflecting on how life can sometimes present scenarios that seem more outrageous than any scripted storyline.
A user encapsulated this idea succinctly: “But in reality, it just proves that life sometimes serves up stories that are way more bizarre and dramatic than what any writer could dream up. Reality truly is stranger than fiction!”

As per the reactions on his post, Varma’s tweet appears to draw inspiration from ongoing tensions.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader, who was shot in Bandra, Mumbai, on Saturday night. Siddique was attacked by three assailants who fired multiple shots, resulting in his death shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

In a Facebook post, they stated, “Om, Jai Shri Ram, Jai Bharat. We understand the essence of life and consider wealth and the body as dust. We did only what was right, honouring the duty of friendship.” They further declared, “Salman Khan, we did not want this war but you made our brother lose his life… Anyone who helps Salman Khan or the Dawood gang should be prepared.” Mumbai police are looking into the post’s authenticity as it is being virally circulated.
