Christian community fume over vandalism on roadside cross nearAndheri SEEPZ Church

Members of the Christian community have demanded an investigation following a roadside cross near SEEPZ’s 500-year-old St. John the Baptist Church was subjected to repeated vandalism on May 13 and 14, 2026.

Initial incident around 2 am–3 am on May 13, followed by another incident on May 14.
Occurred amidst the month of May, celebrated by Catholics as the “Month of Mother Mary,” increasing community distress.

Police are investigating and reviewing CCTV footage and Watchdog Foundation and local parishoners have condemned the acts, noting that the cross had been protected by a wall.

Members of the community also allege a pattern, noting earlier instances of vandalism at religious sites across Mumbai, including Santacruz, Juhu, and Bandra.This incident comes at a sensitive time, as the community was previously highlighting the need for better security for such religious landmarks.
