“The Legend of Maula Jat” featuring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, premiered in China on May 21, 2026. This release across over 1,000 screens marks a massive landmark for Pakistani cinema as the country’s highest-grossing film expands into the Chinese market.
Notedly, director Bilal Lashari expressed intense satisfaction that wider international audiences can now experience the epic action drama.
At the premiere, he voiced confidence that the film’s theatrical debut will break new ground and pave the way for other Pakistani productions to find success in China.
The film was launched in mainland Chinese cinemas, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
This release was made possible following a Film Co-Production Agreement signed between Pakistan and the China Film Administration.
Before its entry into China, the 2022 film had already made history as the highest-grossing Pakistani movie of all time, generating over PKR 400 crore worldwide.
