A hamstring tear has sidelined Virat Kohli from the Afghanistan ODIs, disrupting his buildup for the upcoming World Cup.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the frontrunner to fill Kohli’s spot in the squad, while Yashasvi Jaiswal could be called up if Rohit Sharma fails his fitness test. Additionally, both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya must clear BCCI medical protocols before their availability for the series is finalized.
Rohit Sharma is yet to report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for a mandatory fitness test following a hamstring issue during the IPL. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has checked into the facility to undergo fitness drills. Should Rohit miss out, the selectors have reliable backups on standby to maintain balance and depth.
Virat Kohli also recovering from an injury, the BCCI has built immediate depth. Yashasvi Jaiswal is a prime candidate to step up at the top of the order.
Selectors are evaluating backup options including Ishan Kishan and Devdutt Padikkal to ensure the top-order retains its left-handed dynamism.
In the interim the BCCI selection committee is actively adjusting the squad to ensure seamless transitions for the Afghanistan series.
