Southwest Monsoon advances to konkan region-IMD preducts

Southwest monsoon has eventually touched Maharashtra The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday announced that the monsoon has entered the southern Konkan region. After completely covering Goa, monsoon winds have made their presence felt in southern Konkan.

With this, the monsoon has now started moving towards the rest of the state, including Mumbai. This has raised hopes of relief for those suffering from the scorching heat.

Monsoon reaches Maharashtra from Kerala in two days
This year, the monsoon arrived in Kerala three days later than usual. It gained strength after reaching the Kerala coast on June 4. In just two days, the monsoon covered Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa and parts of the Arabian Sea and reached the border of Maharashtra. According to the latest data from the Meteorological Department, atmospheric conditions are still favourable for the further advance of the monsoon.

After entering South Konkan, the next stage is for the monsoon to reach Mumbai and North Konkan. The monsoon often progresses rapidly after reaching South Konkan. As a result, weather experts have predicted that the monsoon is likely to reach Mumbai soon. Rainfall may increase in some areas, along with increased wind speed.

Many parts of the state experienced intense heat amidst April-May. Heatwave-like conditions persisted, particularly in the Vidarbha region. Although sporadic rainstorms brought some relief, farmers and citizens alike were eagerly awaiting the monsoon. Now that its official arrival has been confirmed, preparations for the Kharif crop season are expected to accelerate.

Last year, the monsoon entered Kerala on May 24th. It reached southern Konkan the very next day and reached Mumbai on May 26th. Although its arrival in Kerala was delayed this year, its subsequent progress appears to be relatively rapid.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has already predicted below-average rainfall for the state in the month of June. As a result, the entire state, including farmers, is closely monitoring the monsoon’s further progress and forecasts for upcoming rainfall.
