Actress Suchitra Krishnamoorthi credited Kundan Shah’s masterful direction and the film’s unconventional, relatable coming-of-age narrative for its lasting legacy Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. She specifically recalled the late director being a “hard taskmaster” who once scolded her on set with, “Suchitra, can you work a little harder?” Suchitra Krishnamoorthi on 30 years of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.

During the filming of the famous slapping scene, she burst into tears because she couldn’t bring herself to slap Shah Rukh Khan multiple times, but Shah Rukh Khan stood there like a thorough gentleman.She noted that SRK was newly married to Gauri Khan amidst the shoot and would treat his wife like a “princess.” When acting opposite Suchitra, he frequently imagined his wife, which is why the on-screen love felt so raw and authentic.
