Bombay HC refuses to direct OTT platform to take down ‘Scoop’ after Chhota Rajan’s plea against it
The Bombay High Court has refused to direct OTT platform to pull down Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scoop’ following Chhota Rajan’s plea against it.
Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scoop’ released on June 2 on OTT. The web-show stars Karishma Tanna, Harman Baweja, Zeeshan ayyub among others.
The show is based on a real life incident where crime journalist Jigna Vora emerged a suspect of murder. It is based on her biographical book ‘Behind The Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison’. Karisma essays Jigna’s role in the series as Jagruti Pathak.
However, jailed gangster Rajendra Nikalke aka Chhota Rajan has moved Bombay High court against the release of ‘Scoop’. He has blatantly accused the makers of ‘use or misuse of the attributes of his personality’ without prior consent amounting to infringement of his personality rights and defamation.
He has also sought a permanent injunction restraining the makers of the web series and sought damages of Re. 1 to be paid to him.
But, the Bombay High Court has refused to direct the OTT platform to take down ‘Scoop’. The court had allowed Rajan to amend his suit to show how it is a matter of intellectual property rights and has refused to ask the platform to take down the show.
Now that ‘Scoop’ has released already, Justice Shivkumar Dige has said that the court will see on the next due date.
