The P/South ward, spans across Goregaon West and has a mix of residential, industrial and slum population. It has major as well as minor roads as well as major and minor nullahs. Encroachment, waterlogging and hygiene are its key problem areas.
Hawkers take up most of the footpaths, forcing pedestrians to risk life and limb by walking on the roads. The west entrance of the Goregaon railway station face the brunt of this menace, with hawkers vying for every inch of space available.
Pedestrians forced to take the roads add to the traffic chaos.
Commuters allege that the BMC’s repeated action against illegal hawkers is only an eyewash since the encroachers return no sooner than they had been evicted. They want the BMC to find a permanent solution to the menace immediately.

Even on the M.G.Road hawkers have occupied most of the space on pedestrian paths leaving hardly any space to walk. Senior citizens have to take to take to the road putting their lives to stake.
Despite repeated complaints to Ward Officers both by personal visits and letters, no stringent course of action is being initiated by the Ward Officers for reasons best known to them. Probably they may be hand-in-glove with the hawkers.
It will not be out of place to point out that corruption is a galore in P/South Ward.
The Civic Body Commissioner must intervene and pull up those Ward Officers who are into corruption otherwise things will not improve.
