Signature Campaign against BMC’s inaction over the illegal
There seems to be no end to the ongoing illegal encroachment by hawkers in most of the central and western suburbs of Mumbai.
No stringent course of action is being initiated by the Ward Officers. This is despite of many complaints by residents.
The new victims to the illegal hawking are the Ghatkopar residents who are gearing up to launch a Signature Campaign against BMC’s inaction over the illegal road and pavement encroachments by hawkers.
The campaign has been planned below the Ghatkopar Metro rail station on Thursday 23 November from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Aggrieved by the total disregard by the `N’ ward office of the BMC, Ghatkopar citizens have decided to initiate a signature campaign against the extensive encroachments on roads and pavements.
Notwithstanding the Bombay HC order, and in total defiance defiance of the High Court order, large number of hawkers are operating within a few feet of Ghatkopar station on both the west and east sides.
They don’t seem to understand the prohibtion for hawking within 150 meters of railway stations.
Sanjay Shah, a local resident, expresses deep concern, stating, that that pedestrians are facing immense difficulty.
The hawkers, are creating a permanent traffic chaos near the station.” According to Jitendra Dalgi, another resident, even repeated complaints to the `N’ ward office have as yet not got.any results.
He went on to claim that there is massive corruption due to which this problem is not getting solved. Even court orders are being violated with impunity. It’s high time the Shinde-led Govt wake-up and do the needful immediately.
