Bollywood’s legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle left her voice for films and albums for nearly eight decades, turned 91.She is the proud receiver of the second highest Government of India’s
civilian award Padma Vibhushan
for her contribution to music. She has recorded more than 12,000 songs in more than 20 Indian and foreign languages.
Asha Bhosle’s popular songs have been Parde Mein Rehne Do, Chura Liya Hai and Ude Jab Jab Zulfen Teri. She is the younger sister of popular singer Lata Mangeshkar for whom becoming a playback singer was not just a dream but a necessity and now, she holds the Guinness World Record for singing the most number of songs.
Even as she is 90+, yet she is the most popular Hindi Cinema singer. But her personal life was not as successful as her career. She went on to love a wrong person who had a bad influence on her life as nobody expected. She grew up in a musical family and environment.
Amidst her difficult time, she took a step that none expected. As per reports, she fell in love with Lata Mangeshkar’s secretary Ganpatrao Bhosle and at that time around, she was only 16 years old.
When Asha bid adieu to the entire family to live with her 31-year-old husband her bond amid the sisters deteriorated. After the birth of their son Hemant, she was accepted by the Mangeshkar family but her husband wasn’t in favour of that.
In 1960, Ganpatrao threw Asha Bhosle and her three children out of the house and she again focused on her career and scored one hit after another.
Asha Bhosle then got close to RD Burman, who was 6 years younger to her. Following her first two marriages having been unsuccessful. RD Burman proposed to her, but the singer initially rejected it. After a lot of persuasion from RD Burman, Asha Bhosle married him in the 80s. Both could not stay together for long. RD Burman bid adieu to the mortal world on January 4, 1994.
Asha Bhosle returned for film Rangeela. In 2013, when she was 79, she made her debut as a leading lady in the film Mai. The legendary singer also loves cooking. She has turned her hobby into a career and runs restaurants in major cities across the world.
