MNS rally impacts transport and public movement
In the midst of the heightened tensions on Mumbai roads of the language row, rallies organised by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in several busy areas have resulted in traffic jams and chaos, leading to safety concerns in several areas. Commuters have expressed their problems as the roads are either slowed down or completely blocked due to rallies and public gatherings. Some of the key spots, including Mira-Bhayandar and Thane, have an enhanced police presence and traffic delays.
Traffic advisory have listed the routes to be avoided
*Mira-Bhayandar
If you are travelling from Balaji Road to Mira Road Station, crowd congestion and road closures are highly likely.
Further, around the Mira Road East and Shanti Park Area, and amid the Golden Nest and GCC Club, it is likely to have traffic chaos owing to re-routed vehicles.
*Thane City & Ghodbunder Road
These routes are suggested to be avoided as they are a common protest route. Traffic slowdown is also expected around the Eastern Express Highway entry point due to traffic diversion from protest areas.
Police detain MNS workers protesting to counter traders’ protest over language row, in Mira Bhayandar area
*Around Central and South Mumbai
To avoid the route of Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, near SVP stadium, as the roads may be blocked. Moreover, if possible, bypass the route of going from Dadar to Shivaji Park Corridor, with diversions underway due to the protest.
If commuting via road between Thane, Mira Road, and Bhayandar over the next few days, it’s best to rely on public transport options or take alternate peripheral roads.
Additionally, amidst peak hours, plan early with at least 1.5–2 hours of extra travel time.
