Mithun Chakraborty to share screen space with Rajinikanth in Jailer 2
In a major casting win that ensures to ignite the screens veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty gears up to share screen space with legendary actor Rajinikanth in ‘Jailer 2’.
The shoot for sequel of the Nelson Dilipkumar’s directorial shooting of the sequel, is currently in progress at a brisk pace.
A source close to the development confirms to the media that Mithun joins the shoot alongside Rajinikanth later this week. Reportedly, he will play a full-fledged role, which is instrumental to the film’s story.
This marks a rare crossover amid two of Indian cinema’s icons. Earlier Rajinikanth made special appearances in two of Mithun’s films. One was in Hindi ‘Bhrastachar’, released in 1989 and another one in Bengali “Bhagya Devta” released in 1997. Mithun’s entry into ‘Jailer 2’ is significant for several reasons. The Nelson Dilipkumar’s directorial ‘Jailer’ released in 2023 and turned out to be a
box-office juggernaut, collecting over Rs 600 crore worldwide. Rajinikanth’s portrayal of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer forced back into action, was met with both critical acclaim and massive fan hysteria. The film’s power-packed cameos, from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff, further elevated its appeal, making it one of Rajinikanth’s biggest hits in recent years.
As of now,the film is being shot in Chennai and across multiple locations in India, ‘as Jailer 2’ ensures to carry forward the
high-octane storytelling and stylish action that made the first film a global hit.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is currently riding high on the success of his latest release, ‘Coolie’, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, which released on August 14, shattered opening day records with a staggering
Rs 151 crore worldwide collection. ‘Coolie’ crossed the Rs 200 crore (nett) mark domestically and surged past Rs 400 crore globally in four days.
