Housing Minister Dr Jitendra Awhad at his literary best: “Chaw-leet-le Tower” A literary tribute to poet Namdeo Dhasal
Panther Namdeo Dhasal “… our sharp “youth” like “swords” have grown, we have put ashes in our heads, you say happy, we are mad, we are really crazy, and we have put ashes in our heads, because we have a direction of thought…!” Namdeo Dhasal, who believed, that our mind’s single minded direction is the universal liberation of mankind. Namdev Dhasal, ‘Raktat petlelya angit suryanno‘ who denied being a ‘dark traveller- Andar-yatrik‘ . Namdeo Dhasal, who fought dalit panther liberation. was an activist, leader, MP and more than that, the great rebel poet Dhasal.
He was originally from Khed taluka of Pune district. he came to Mumbai with his father when he was in his fourth grade as a child. he lived in this “golpeeth” in Kamathipura, a locality considered ‘amangal’ in Mumbai. His father worked as a butcher in a slaughter house. Dhasal learnt here, grew up, became a poet. From the age of 17-18, he developed a hobby of poetry.
There was a life of scarcity, cultural poverty around. There was an atmosphere where “white dreams” could never have been woven. This is a part of Mumbai. But in the words of playwright Vijay Tendulkar, “no man’s land – the wilderness – begins with white-celled accounts, after the boundaries of the white world, this part begins” . the world known as “golpeeth” was a fleet of his poems. The rebellion in that poem was the offspring of that world. In 1972, his collection of poems , ‘golpeetha’ was published, and the world of “Saraswata” was shaken by its blazing, naked reality. The language, style, rug of this poem were all new to white-collar tastes. After “golpeetha“, the stupid old man shook the mountain, with great works. “Priyadarshini”, “Tuhi Yatta Kanchi”, “Gandu Bagicha” (Marathi)
