Smita Thackeray returns to film production after long hiatus with ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi 2’
Smith Thackeray the pretty daughter-in-law of Balasaheb was making headlines when she forayed into film production some years ago.
Apart a social activist, she was very much passionate on film making. She was associated with people into film production and that prompted her to plunge into film production and she made films such as ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’, ‘Sandwich’, ‘Bhootnath’, ‘Housefull’, ‘Oh My God’ and a Marathi film called ‘R.A.A.D.A Rocks’ . Even as she was inspired by the works of other
directors she had a cherished wish to get associated with veteran filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She loved the way he frames his films, the grandeur and the detailing of his films.
She loved Govinda as an actor and that time around Govinda and filmmaker David Dhawan were very close and the pair were a hit in the 90’s. That’s how her ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ saw the light of day and fulfilled her wish to collaborate with Govinda by roping him for the film which eventually turned out to be a run-away-hit.
She plans to repeat the same cast and crew of earlier Haseena Maan Jayegi.in the part 2 i.e Sunjay Dutt and Govinda.
As a Marathi manoos Smita may have produced many Bollywood films, but it’s surprising that she managed to produce just one Marathi film. While she loves Marathi cinema, her decision has been influenced by the commerce. Producing a Marathi film is risky. Her earlier Marathi film proved a debacle. According to Smita, Marathi cinema is doing wonders contentwise but somehow the audience has less reliability.
