Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has called out the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) following the sudden removal of Satluj (formerly Punjab’95) from ZEE5.

Kamra took to social media to pen an open letter directed at CBFC Chairperson Prasoon Joshi, demanding accountability for the board’s actions.

Kamra publicly questioned why the censorship board demanded a staggering 127 cuts to the film, despite it being based on documented, factual history.
He asserted that the CBFC has no legal jurisdiction over ZEE5 or OTT platforms, arguing that the takedown demonstrates double standards in how politically sensitive films are treated.
Kamra stated that the abrupt removal sends a chilling message to filmmakers: “If you’re paying homage to a great personality from a minority community, you’ll have to face the CBFC”.
Condemning the abrupt censorship, Kamra stated that the late activist Jaswant Singh Khalra had effectively been “abducted again, this time by the CBFC”.

Following the takedown, ZEE5 released a statement noting that the film will remain unavailable in India until further notice as they explore legal avenues to bring it back.
