Saroj Khan did not merely collect accolades; she sculpted rhythm into poetry. In 1989, when the Filmfare Awards first opened its arms to the art of movement, she stepped forward as the inaugural muse, etching her name at the very dawn of the choreography crown. She won it for the mega-hit song “Ek Do Teen” from film “Tezaab”. After that, she won the trophy three years in a row.
Her historic partnership with superstar Madhuri Dixit created Bollywood magic. Together, they delivered unforgettable dance anthems. Saroj Khan directed Madhuri’s iconic moves in “Dhak Dhak” and “Choli Ke Peeche.” She also choreographed the grand dance-off “Dola Re Dola.”
Remembering her Guru
Madhuri Dixit shared her deep grief upon the passing of her beloved mentor, stating she was “devastated by the loss of my friend and guru.” She frequently credited Saroj Khan for helping her reach her “full potential in dance.”
Reflecting on their unique connection on the sets, Dixit shared:
“Nobody can make women look so beautiful, desirable & sensuous on-screen like her. She made everything look like poetry in motion.
Madhuri also recalled how the legendary “Masterji” taught her the art of expressions, grace, and how to “romance the camera” during their very first massive hit together.
