In a new devopment, the
Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced that Centre plans to end the existing toll system in India and replace it with a satellite-based toll collection system.
Speaking to a news agency Gadkari affirmed that the money will be deducted from the bank account of people and the amount of distance covered by them will be charged accordingly.
Reverting to complaints of high toll taxes, Gadkari made it clear that highways save time and fuel adding that earlier, commuting from Mumbai to Pune was taking 9 hours now it is reduced to 2 hours.
In December last, Gadkari had announced that National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to roll out the new system by March 2024.
