Filmmakers Anees Bazmee Mahavir Jain Vikas Bahl and Abhishek Sharma who were at the panel Corporate Culture in the Film Industry open up on the issue.

The renowned filmmakers elaborated on the possible existence of Bollywood Mafia while speaking at 53rd IFFI 2022 in Goa which has since concluded.

As per Anees Bazmee, Creativity and Business should co-exist to achieve cinematic excellence, whereas Vikas Bahl
pointed out that anove all film-making is a business of heart, Corporates should understand this.

Abhishek Sharma pointed out that Corporatisation has ensured the ‘cleansing of money’ from film industry.

According to them, at the time of release of a film the Boycott Bollywood and Boycott actor film trend make it to the headlines in social media.

When a film does well at the box office, the news of Bollywood Mafia crops up. Interestingly, even as the Boycott Bollywood trend is fan driven, those talking about the ‘mafia’ inside the film industry are from the fraternity itself.

The panel brought to light how Corporates increase their stakes on creative calls and how the corporatisation of the film industry is impacting the way films are being made. The directors weighed in on the pros and cons and there was a consensus that perhaps the industry lacked unity and confusion on whether it was even an ‘industry’

Reacting to the existence of Bollywood Mafia exist and is it the reason behind the lack of unity or the reason why it ceases to be an ‘industry’.

As per Anees Bazmee, who has been in the industry since a few decades and who has seen the pre-corporatisation and post changes, ‘Film industry is a place of heart and emotions. There have been times where the producers gave them cheques which remained in their drawers. And ironically, none ever cared instead, went on working together again.
To give up on such huge money only happens here, since there is emotion involved.’

The director who gave one of the biggest blockbusters with Kartik Aaryan in the post pandemic times further added that there is no mafia. But yes, there are all kinds of people everywhere and some people have been shouting from rooftops about it. However, that is not how it works.

The other directors were in agreement. Whereas, Komal Nahta, senior film critic and trade analyst also moderating the session, opined, that the brazen controversy got created especially following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. It sounds dangerous.
