Mahindra & Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra retaliated to the billboard collapse on Monday, articulating that for a city like Mumbai, which had ambitions to transform itself into a modern metropolis, such accidents were unacceptable.

A giant billboard in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area collapsed, leaving 14 people dead and injuring 74 others, following heavy rain and thunderstorms in the city on Monday evening.

The rains, accompanied by gusty winds, caused the 30m tall billboard to fall over a gas station in the suburb, with rescue operations ongoing on Tuesday morning.

Mahindra’s post saw a of mixed user replies. Even as some agreed with him over the imposition of stringent rules, others said that calling for a probe into the incident was a reactive decision.

One user commented that “totally agree, safety should be the top priority in all construction work. Let’s hope for stricter regulations.
